1. Claims | Consistory Vienna

The following charts show the claim interests in the main proceedings. Chart 1.0 covers the entire period of investigation. Using the arrows located to the right and left of the chart you can access further charts which, starting with the number 1.1, each differentiate between the different time segments. Slideshow 1 deals with the claim interests independent of the sex of the plaintiff, slideshow 2 contains the claim interests of the wives, slideshow 3 those of the husbands.

The differentiation according to sex highlights the differing interests which motivated the husbands and wives to file a complaint. In all of the investigated time periods it was predominantly wives who filed for a separation or divorce, while the claims for order of cohabitation were predominantly filed by husbands.

2. Verdicts | Consistory Vienna

The following charts show the different verdicts in the main proceedings issued by the Consistory of Vienna. Chart 1.0 covers the entire period of investigation. Using the arrows located to the right and left of the chart you can access further charts which, starting with the number 1.1, each differentiate between the verdicts of the different time segments.

Slideshow 1 deals with the verdicts independent of the sex of the plaintiff, slideshow 2 contains the verdicts in main proceedings filed by the wives, while slideshow 3 focuses on the proceedings filed by the husbands.

The charts make it clear that in only about a quarter of the main proceedings the Viennese Consistory granted a tolerance, which the councilors generally limited in time. It is also noteworthy that the differentiation according to sex hardly made any difference although wives filed predominantly for a separation or divorce, while husbands predominantly filed for an order for the wife to resume cohabitation.  It is to be considered, however, that of the 1,193 main proceedings, 924 were filed by women.
